Karly Powell Lewis
Karly Lewis, a native of Austin, TX, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Creative Writing from Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. After graduating, she moved to New York City, where she was a faculty member for the Children & Teen Program at Broadway Dance Center, teaching jazz, musical theatre, and choreography to dancers from around the world.
Now based in Austin, Karly teaches for the education program at the Paramount Theatre and works with students across Central Texas at schools including St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, East View High School, Cedar Park High School, and Dripping Springs High School. Her recent high school choreography credits include A Chorus Line, Anastasia, Big Fish, Bonnie & Clyde, Bright Star, Damn Yankees, Little Shop of Horrors, Mean Girls, Newsies, and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
She is certified in the Advanced level of the Giordano Jazz technique through Giordano Dance Chicago & the Nan Giordano Certification Program in Chicago, IL. Karly has also taught for ZACH Theatre’s Academy and Pre-Professional Company and choreographed several productions for ZACH and other regional theatres, including You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Southwestern University), Winnie the Pooh, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Year with Frog and Toad, and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical.
A former member of Verge Dance Company, Karly has also performed at Austin's Paramount Theatre alongside the Diego Rivera Quintet and in Sophisticated Ladies at ZACH Theatre, starring Jennifer Holliday.
